Development of cooperation opportunities between Cairo University and the Chinese Universities have been discussed by Professor Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, and Hua Yang, the Chinese Vice Minister of Higher Education and President of the General Conference of UNESCO, during his visit to Cairo University with a delegation that includes a number of officials at the Chinese Ministry of Education and National Commission for UNESCO in Beijing. Nassar has held talks with the Chinese delegation. It was attended by Vice President of Cairo University, Professor Gamal Essmat, Vice President of Cairo University for Graduate Studies and Research, Professor Ezz-ul-Din Abu-Steit, Vice President of Cairo University for Education and Student Affairs, and Professor Gamal Abdul-Nasser, Vice President of Cairo University for Community Service and Environment Development. The meeting has been attended by Professor Mohamed Sameh Amr, Egypt's Ambassador at UNESCO and Chairman of the Executive Board of the UNESCO.
Nassar has confirmed the importance of enhancing cooperation opportunities with the Chinese Universities. He said that the Chinese Universities have reached a high level of progress at educational, research and training levels. He pointed out that there are agreements between Cairo University and a number of Chinese Universities lead by cooperation agreement with Beijing University through which Confucius Institute has been established at Cairo University for teaching Chinese. Nassar has demanded the necessity of activating these agreements and exchanging meetings which enhance these opportunities.
Hua Yang has explained the role made by the National Commission for UNESCO at Beijing in boosting educational and cultural relations between China and different countries of the world in higher education field. He pointed out that his visit to Cairo University comes in the context of his visit to Egypt. He confirmed the importance of Cairo University at the regional level concerning its huge scientific, educational and student potentials. He illustrated that all the efforts of UNESCO pour in developing education as one of the important targets of the organization.
Noteworthy, the visit of the Chinese Minister of Education and his accompanying delegation to Cairo University comes in the context of an official visit to Egypt after an invitation from the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education, Professor Al-Sayed Abdul-Khalek.
