Professor Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, has inaugurated the activities of the regional preparation workshop for enumerating and classifying hazardous materials at the Arab states, which will be conducted at Sharm El Sheikh. The discussion session of used electronic wastes legislation draft will also be headed by Nassar paving the way to display it to the Arab Team at League of Arab States. He will also distribute certificates on delegations of Arab states who are participants in the workshop.
This workshop is organized by Basel Convention Regional Center for Training and Technology Transfer for The Arab State (BCRC-Egypt) which is now hosted by Cairo University. This center follows Basel agreement which is regarded one of the greatest international agreements involved in hazardous materials. Basel includes fourteen centers at the international level.
The workshop discusses enumeration operations and hazardous wastes lists preparation. It is attended by delegations of Ten Arab States and representatives of involved ministries and bodies in Egypt, as well as representatives of some international organizations (UNESCO - United Nations Development Programme – ALESCO), and representatives for League of Arab States.
Basel Center at Cairo targets 22 Arab states and is interested in technology transfer, technical consultations, and uplifting efficiency and developing media capabilities in the field of media publication on hazardous wastes. It also seeks uplifting the efficiency of central administrations at ministries, Arab environment systems, and ports in hazardous materials and wastes field.
Noteworthy, Cairo University boosts Basel Center through the experiences of professors and scientists. It also participates in its various activities to glorify its role at the Arab level.
