Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, organizes the sixth annual conference, entitled "Violence against Women: together the Best is Achieved", in cooperation with Institute of Legal Medicine, Hamburg University, Germany, from 1-3 November, 2015, at 9 a.m., at the main hall, The Learning Resource Center (LRC), Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University .
The conference is sponsored by Prof. Dr. Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, Prof. Dr. Fathy Khodeir, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Hala Youssef, Former Minister of Housing. Three international organizations participate in the conference to present their orientations concerning the issue of violence against women, as well as the participation of a number of representatives of Arab and foreign states. More than 60 research papers from all concerned specialties are being presented as well as the distinctive participation of Faculty of Medicine students at different universities.
Bodies and authorities at the international level participate in the conference. They are International Criminal Court – International Committee for Red Cross – Physicians without Borders – representatives of European Universities). Whereas the bodies participating at the local level includes (representatives of Egyptian Universities – representatives of the Egyptian Ministry of Health – representatives of Ministry of Interior – Syndicate of Physicians – Forensic Medicine Authority – National Center for Criminal Research – National Research Center – National Council for Women – The National Council for Motherhood and Childhood), as well as a group of researchers interested in the field of combating domestic violence.
The conference discusses the issue of violence against women with all its forms; physical, psychological, bodily and sexual violence from integrate medical, legal, psychological, rehabilitative and societal perspective, so as to access the integrated strategy of dealing with this societal pivotal issue.
The conference includes scientific episodes which are made by international specialists to discuss specific topics in the field of protection against domestic violence and violence against women, as well as specialized sessions to present scientific papers and other sessions to present and discuss posters.
The conference also includes a workshop on the latest developments in hands-on DNA imprint, specialized workshops in medical education and the latest developments in dealing with cases of violence against women, made by specialized professors from Victoria University – Australia, Physicians without Borders and the International Committee for Red Cross.
Prof. Dr. Dina Shokry, Head of Forensic Medicine and Clinical Toxicology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University and Head of the Conference, said that the issue of violence against women is one of the serious societal issues which have negative influence on individuals and society, the matter which hinders the movement of development. The conference aims at making an obvious strategy for overcoming this phenomenon.
