The latest constructing works and the equipment of the first stage of Institute of Tropical Medicine & Infectious Diseases Thabet Thabet – Cairo University,at Al-Haram Main Street, were inspected by Prof. Dr. Gamal Essmat, Vice President of Cairo University for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Amr Adly, the New Vice President of Cairo University for Graduate Studies, who is taking up his office by the beginning of January, and Prof. Dr. Fathy Khodair, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Kasr Al-Ainy.
During his inspecting tour, Essmat said that the first stage that the university is about to finish includes the general site and three floors that encompass patient stay building, accommodating 35 beds, Emergency Department Reception, 20 outpatient clinics, Intensive Care Department, accommodating 30 beds, Radiology and Endoscopy department, and clinical laboratories and operations department. Essmat confirmed that the total cost of the phase reached about 120 million EGPs.
Cairo University Vice President proceeded that the phase is to be inaugurated in the framework of Institute of Tropical Medicine & Infectious Diseases Thabet Thabet – Cairo University after finishing all the medical equipment of that stage. The hospital is going to start to receive patients and provide citizens with therapeutic services at the outpatient clinics specialized in endemic diseases by late February. Cairo University Vice President also announced that Tarsod Center for Infectious Diseases, affiliated to the hospital, is going to be inaugurated at Arab states and Eastern Africa levels.
Prof. Dr. Gaber Nassar, Cairo University President, gave orders to speed-up the constructing process of the hospital and running the first phase of it to offer citizens health and therapy services in this vital medical specialty, in order for Endemic and Epidemic Diseases Hospital to become the first one in Egypt and the Middle East.
Noteworthy, Cairo University initiated the establishment of Endemic Diseases Hospital and Institute in August, 2013, on a plot, which was a charitable endowment at Al-Haram Main Street, in a total area of 7300 square feet. It became the first research and therapeutic institute in Egypt and the Middle East, affiliated to Faculty of Medicine – Cairo University, to offer health services in endemic diseases diagnosis and therapy, established on two phases.
