Cairo University participates in celebrating International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, sponsored by UN, in the period from Friday, November 2016 until December 10, 2016. Anti-Harassment Unit, Cairo University, organizes activities in this period within the framework of the university participation in the global sixteen-day campaign sponsored by Cairo University President Gaber Nassar in cooperation with National Council for Women, UN Women, British Council, Save The Children UK, Nazra for Feminist Studies, HarassMap and Bassma Organization, under the guise of "secure education."
Many activities aiming at raising awareness and educating, seminars on laws of violence, media and men participation, different artistic shows at faculties yards and the university campus and different sport activities are organized by Cairo University.
The Head of the Executive Committee for Anti-Harassment Unit – Cairo University Maha El-Saeed said ،،the unit chose a message that is aimed at spreading knowledge on equality, enhancing the protection of women from violence and raising the awareness of academic education secure for all among the university youth. This is to be achieved by a group of activities which student, academic staff members and employees participate in within the framework of the campaign activities. ,,
El-Saeed added that ،،the activities began on Friday, November 25, 2016, with bicycles marathon around the university from the main entrance to Kasr Al-Ainy and returning. Awareness convoys will be organized, in the following days, at the yards of the university campus and faculties. The activities also include seminars, screening of documentary films, photo exhibitions and varied artistic activities. ,,
The concluding celebration on December 10, 2016, witnesses Mass Communication Student March at the campus yard to be witnessed by Cairo University President Gaber Nassar and the Head of Women National Council Maya Morsy. A cooperation protocol will be signed between Cairo University and Women National Council and a film on the campaign activities between the unit and Women National Council will be screened. The celebration will be concluded by honoring winners in different competitions.
The United Nations allocated International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women for raising general awareness and bringing people together to make change concerning the issues of eliminating violence and harassment with all its forms.
