A workshop on ،،Implementing A Policy of Encountering Harassment and Violence Against Women at Egyptian Universities,, is opened and sponsored by Cairo University President Gaber Nassar in the framework of Cairo University celebration of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The workshop is organized by cooperation between Anti-Harassment Unit and HarassMap Organization in the activities carried out by the university within the framework of the sixteen-day campaign of combating violence against women. The workshop is aimed at exchanging experiences, discussing opportunities and challenges of implementing Cairo University experiment and transferring it to other universities. Representatives of ten governmental Egyptian Universities and some private universities participated in two-day activities at Guest House, at Cairo University. Cairo University professors, including the Director of Anti-Harassment Unit Maha El-Saeed, participated in developing the plans of and founding Anti-Harassment Unit at the University.
Dr. Maha El-Saeed said that ،،the workshop is a crucial step towards partnership development among Anti-Harassment Unit – Cairo University, HarassMap Organization and Universities. This will be pursued within the framework of implementing Anti-Harassment policy and establishing similar units that encounters harassment and violence against women at other Egyptian Universities. This is aimed at enhancing the concept of creating academic community secure for all which all Egyptian Universities are keen on. ,,
The CEO of HarassMap Organization Reem Wael said that ،،HarassMap is a voluntary initiative that was founded at Egypt in 2010. It offered technical support to Anti-Harassment Unit – Cairo University, throughout the previous two years, in the field of transferring experience and volunteers and participating in different activities and awareness-raising campaigns. ,, She pointed out that ،،Cairo University established the first Anti-Harassment Unit at the level of Egyptian Universities in 2014. This experiment achieved a great success regarding raising awareness and implementing measures of preventing harassment and violence against women at university.
