Professor Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, and Dr. Chen Jie, Vice Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China, attended the signing ceremony of a joint cooperation protocol to enhance collaboration in the field of Chinese language learning and teaching, and to establish dual academic degrees, as part of the framework of the national strategy for higher education and scientific research, and in light of the University’s keenness on enhancing its international role and on building partnerships and dual degrees with prestigious international universities at the International Branch of Cairo University.
The cooperation protocol was signed at the International Branch of Cairo University by Professor Mahmoud Al-Saeed, Vice President of Cairo University for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Ma Jianfei, Director of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the People s Republic of China.
The purpose of this protocol is to promote cooperation between the two parties in the following fields: workshops and training programs, joint research projects, joint programs, joint master’s and PhD programs, and the admission of students to the Chinese university for a semester or an academic year.
Professor Mohamed Elkhosht welcomed the delegation headed by the Chinese Vice Minister of Education. During the meeting, the two parties discussed a number of issues within the scope of the strategic cooperation agreement between Egypt and China, and in light of the distinguished relations between the two countries.
Professor Mohamed Elkhosht said that signing this protocol at the International Branch of Cairo University is part of the university’s international cooperation and the exposure and openness to various educational systems from different civilizations and cultures of the world.
The Chinese Vice Minister of Education stated that Cairo University has made great contributions to Arabic and Islamic culture, and that because of the future vision of Dr. Elkhosht, who is a scholar, philosopher, and thinker, he was able to lead Cairo University to a leading position.
The Chinese Vice Minister of Education expressed his happiness of meeting Dr. Mohamed Elkhosht, as he has already heard a lot about his efforts in developing Cairo University in various fields. He thanked him for providing the opportunity to the delegation of the Chinese Ministry of Education and for meeting them at the International Branch of Cairo University, which seeks to attract international students; the fact which reflects the interest of the university in international cooperation, as well as the great vision of the university’s president and his interest in the future through introducing nanotechnology and artificial intelligence at Cairo University.
He stated that the Confucius Institute, under the leadership of Professor Mohamed Elkhosht, was ranked among the model Confucius institutes in 2021, because it played a positive role in spreading Chinese culture and language and in enhancing exchange between the two countries. He pointed out that Cairo University pays great attention to the teaching of Chinese language in Egypt, and has a strong cooperation with Chinese universities because cooperation agreements have been signed with many Chinese universities such as Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and other universities.
Dr. Chen Jie, Vice Minister of Education of the People s Republic of China, extended an invitation to Dr. Elkhosht to visit China soon and attend the conference on the challenges of artificial intelligence and digital transformation that face education, and share his experience in this conference and search for solutions to these challenges.
The signing ceremony was attended by Professor Ahmed Ragab, Vice President of Cairo University for Education and Student Affairs, Professor Naglaa Ra’fat, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Mohamed Alattar, Assistant to the President for the Academic Affairs of the International Branch of Cairo University, Professor Heba Nouh, Assistant to the President for the Administrative Affairs of the International Branch of Cairo University, Professor Khaled Abu Al-Lail, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Rehab Mahmoud, Director of Confucius Institute, and a high-level Chinese delegation headed by the Chinese Vice Minister of Education.
