Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, announced that the impact factor of the Review of Economics and Political Science (REPS), issued by CU’s Faculty of Economics and Political Science, has gone up in the rankings issued by the international classification body Scopus. The journal obtained an impact factor of 3.1 in 2024, up from 1.8 in 2023, an increase of 42% which shifted the magazine from the third quarter (Q3) to the second (Q2) in the ranking of international journals in the field.

Dr. Elkhosht emphasized that the REPS was assigned an international impact factor from Clarivate Analytics in 2023 and from Scopus in 2022, placing it at the forefront of internationally-listed Egyptian social sciences journals that have obtained an international impact factor from the highest classification bodies for scientific journals worldwide – an addition to CU’s international achievements within the framework of CU’s fifth-generation university policies. It also achieves the principle of international credibility as a reference, a principle that Cairo University has achieved in many of its educational and research activities through joint study programs with prestigious international educational institutions such as Cambridge, Hamburg and other universities, and also through the globalization of Cairo University journals by obtaining impact factors from the most prestigious international classification bodies.

“Paying due attention to scientific journals is a top priority,” said the President of CU. “We have managed, within a short period, to establish international journals with international publishers, and ensure that CU journals enjoy a stellar reputation globally in terms of international impact factor and citing and reviewing published research. This reflects our application of fifth-generation university policies, the great strides we are making towards achieving international status, and contributing to raising the university’s ranking in global classifications. The number of  CU journals achieving international impact factors from Scopus or Clarivate, or both, is up to 8 CU journals, an increase of 100% compared to the number of international journals in 2017.”

For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Saeed, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, said that CU is keen to facilitate international publishing for researchers by making agreements and alliances with major international universities and publishing houses, noting that REPS is a peer-reviewed scientific quarterly issued by the College of Economics and Political Science. It is devoted to theoretical and field research in economics, statistics, politics, public administration, and social computing. REPS also provides scientific perspectives and book reviews, in addition to following up on seminars and conferences.

For her part, Dr. Heba Nassar, editor-in-chief of the magazine, said that REPS was included the year before last in both the Scopus international classification and the Clarivate Analytics classification as a promising journal before obtaining an impact factor from both institutions in 2023, noting that the journal specializes in economics, politics, statistics, and public administration.

She added that the administration of Cairo University agreed in 2018 along with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank that the British publisher Emerald would be the international publisher of the magazine, which made it easier for the magazine to comply with international classification rules and obtain international impact factors.
