Cairo University has achieved a remarkable global milestone, ranking first in Egypt and Africa and 164th worldwide in the Dutch "Leiden" Ranking. The university surpasses several prestigious global and regional institutions.

Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, President of Cairo University, stated that this achievement is a result of the administrations commitment and the dedication of all its members to maintain a leading position in global competition and adhere to the standards governing these rankings.

The president noted that international rankings base their criteria on global databases rather than data provided by the universities being evaluated.

Under the leadership of Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, Cairo University has secured its place among the top 200 universities globally, achieving the 164th position in the October 2024 edition of the "Leiden" Ranking. The university leads all African and Egyptian institutions in the ranking, followed by Ain Shams University (400), Mansoura University (454), Alexandria University (481), Zagazig University (533), Al-Azhar University (695), Tanta University (764), Assiut University (765), Menoufia University (920), Benha University (1033), Beni Suef University (1081), Minya University (1123), Helwan University (1236), Suez Canal University (1248), and Kafr El-Sheikh University (1387).

Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek emphasised that this achievement is a natural outcome of the university administrations dedication to maintaining its top position in international rankings and its commitment to the global standards applicable to these evaluations. He pointed out that the "Leiden" Ranking includes 15 Egyptian and 43 African universities, with Cairo University at the forefront.

The president also highlighted that the Dutch ranking is unique. It provides advanced indicators and generates results based on these metrics while exploring various multidimensional perspectives, including scientific impact and open publishing. It offers exclusive and transparent information about the universitys research activities, ensuring the independence and impartiality of the ranking, relying on the latest curated data in the global Open Alex database.

Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek affirmed that Cairo University continually strives to keep pace with the latest global systems in research, academic, and administrative fields across all its faculties, institutes, and research centres, ensuring its capacity to maintain a leading position and compete vigorously with prestigious global universities.
