Cairo University Issues an Initiative against Harassment and Violence against Women

Cairo University has issued an initiative against harassment at Egyptian Universities. The initiative includes forming higher committee, headed by the president of the university, against harassment and violence against women. The committee is responsible for developing the necessary policies against harassment and violence against women and boosting the committee with all forms of support. The support includes forming an executive committee subordinated to the supreme committee which is responsible for adopting executive procedures for the university's policy in facing harassment and violence against women at Cairo University. This includes establishing a unit allocated to receive complaints and adopt procedures necessary for helping detriments. It is also responsible for awareness and spreading the culture of respect and equality.
This unit is directly subordinated to the university's president and it presents to him quarterly reports. The executive committee against harassment supervises the unit and 75% of its members at least are women. Its members also contain 3 deans, 3 professors who are concerned for this matter, professor of law, representatives of the civil society and head of students union or a member from the union.
