Date :2014-10-30 21:03:42
In the meeting held on October 27, 2014 which is headed by Dr.\ Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, Cairo University Council approved establishing a Center for Armenian Studies at Cairo University. The center is responsible for all the studies which are historically and culturally related to Armenians, in addition to its role in the field of boosting the cultural relations between Egypt and Armenia. Dr.\ Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, has declared this pointing out that this center will be a prelude to the establishment of a scientific department for the Armenian studies at Cairo University. The university will invite the officials at Armenia and the Armenian embassy at Cairo University and the Armenian community at Egypt to inaugurate the center at Faculty of Arts, Cairo University.
It is noteworthy that Egypt was one of the first countries which recognized the independence of Armenia after its independence from the Soviet Union. Then, a convention of establishing diplomatic relations in 1992 was signed, and the Egyptian embassy in Yerevan in May 1993 has been opened, while the Armenian Embassy in Cairo has been opened in 1992. And the history of the Armenian community in Egypt is rooted in the depths of history, as Egypt is one of the ancient Near East countries that have established active relationships with the ancient Armenian population in the era of the ancient Pharaonic State.
