The Recommendations of the International Symposium for Comparative Literature Held at the English Department, Faculty of Arts, Cairo University

International Symposium on Comparative Literature, entitled “Literature and Language of Resistance”, has been held at Faculty of Arts – Cairo University in the period from 11-13 November 2014, at 10 a.m., at Conference Hall, Faculty of Arts. It is sponsored by Professor Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, and Professor Moataz Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
About hundred researchers of Egyptian and Arab Universities as well as researchers from southern Korea, India, Romania, Italy, Nigeria, France, Turkey, and the United States of America have participated in the symposium.
The symposium was concluded by several recommendations, such as; giving more attention in language study to the so-called “Methods of Resistance” whether in creative writing or translated writing, teaching more works represent resistance in different fields whether political, social or ideological, providing sufficient space in current curricula for comparative literature to compare between methods of resistance in Arabic and its counterparts in the English firstly before other languages.
The symposium has recommended the necessity of giving more efforts to translation studies to study methods of translation of linguistically and intellectually incurable texts, the necessity of widening cultural studies field to cover the varied trends and common opposing means of expression. It has also recommended the necessity of making further cooperation and interaction with foreign researchers interested in commitment and resistance in their countries and also the Arab World countries.
