Cairo University Organizes Sixteen-Day Conclusion Ceremony for Combating Violence against Women

 Anti-Harassment Unit and Combating Violence against Women Unit at Cairo University holds the concluding ceremony of the sixteen-day campaign for combating violence against women which Cairo University participated in during the period between November 29 and December 13, 2017, with a group of activities for raising awareness of combating violence against women. The campaign is sponsored by Cairo University President Mohamed Osman Elkhosht. It is a global campaign, sponsored by UN, which encompasses universities and Egyptian society organizations interested in combating violence against women. The activities of conclusion ceremony are held under the slogan of ،Cairo University Youth are Confronting Violence against Women.,

The conclusion activities of the sixteen-day campaign start by a signpost protest in front of Cairo University dome and a line-up in participation with students attended by Cairo University President Mohamed Osman Elkhosht and faculty members at 3 p.m. This was followed by photo exhibition at the Grand Celebration Hall Cairo University, which was followed by conclusion ceremony at the hall. Cairo University President delivers a speech on equality and protection enhancement for women against violence. The Manager of Anti-Harassment and Combating Violence against Women Unit Cairo University Maha Elsaid delivers a speech on the role of the unit in combating harassment and raising awareness of countering gender-based violence.

The conclusion ceremonies witness artistic shows presented by faculty teams for combating violence against women, then a theatrical show entitled ،Smothered Taa, presented by W Lessa team for Art. Participators in the sixteen-day campaign activities are honored. The activities are concluded by a concert performed by Singer Mohamed Hassan.

Cairo University President Mohamed Osman Elkhosht said that the university has a mission in combating violence against women in cooperation with society. This mission is targeting youth in general and university youth in special to disseminate awareness among them regarding the values of equality and protection enhancement for women, besides awareness of university education being safe for all. The mission is pursued by different activities of Anti-Harassment Unit at Cairo University in which students and faculty members participate in supporting this important social mission.

Elkhosht acclaims the role of Anti- Harassment Unit in disseminating the culture of respect and equality among students and their activities and initiatives in this field.

The activities of the sixteen-day conclusion campaign at Cairo University are witnessed by representatives of UN Women, representatives of National Council for Women, the Manager of British Council in Cairo, faculty members, and students.
