For the first time in the history of Egyptian universities, Cairo University achieves 350th place globally in the QS classification

Cairo University continues to excel in the international rankings of the best Egyptian universities. CU has risen to new heights, coming first among Egyptian universities and institutions and advancing globally in the QS classification for the year 2025 by ranking 350th globally, with a difference of more than 60 places from the American University in Cairo, its closest follower; the next Egyptian university follows 242 places behind.

According to Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, the results of the QS classification confirm the increasing global and local progress of Cairo University with a first-time achievement in the history of Egyptian universities, CU having ranked 350th globally and outstripped a great many American, European, Chinese, Japanese, Arab and African universities. This great success, he added, “is part of our strategic vision established in 2017, and we are now reaping its fruits by progressing and being present in all global classifications with their various international standards.”

The President of Cairo University added that the university has advanced 21 places this year over its own placement in the same classification for the year 2023. “CU has outdone itself,” he said, “and achieved a major breakthrough by advancing more than 200 places, equivalent to 40%, in the QS classification over the past two years.”

Dr. Elkhosht explained that this progress confirms the university’s continuous development and progress on the global scene, confirming its prestigious position among the top 1% of the world’s universities. He stressed that this achievement comes by dint of tireless effort on the part of CU’s administration and faculty over the past few years. CU has been keen to enhance the quality of education and scientific research, provide a distinguished educational environment, developing infrastructure, strengthen its international relations with various academic institutions around the world, bridge the knowledge gap, and provide education that meets the needs of the global labor market.

Dr. Elkhosht also pointed out that CU has managed to lay the foundations that enable it to become a truly international university, both at the educational level and that of international publication, by transitioning towards a fifth-generation university. CU research is always at the forefront of the most cited papers in specialized scientific international journals, which has contributed to making CU one of the best universities in the world, both on a general level and at the level of scientific specializations.'

The QS classification placed 6 Egyptian universities among the top 1,000 universities worldwide. CU ranked first, ranked 350th globally, followed by the AUC (American University in Cairo) in second place, with a difference of 60 places, ranked 410th globally. Ain Shams University followed, ranking 592nd globally; Alexandria University, at 801-850 globally; Future University, at 901-950 globally; and Mansoura University at 950-1000 globally. Nine other 9 Egyptian universities ranked from 1000 to 1400 globally.

It is worth noting that the results of the QS classification of majors, which were announced recently, also showed great progress in Cairo University’s classification, as 6 majors at CU were listed among the top 100 universities in the world, including one among the top 40 universities, following CU’s great progress at the level of humanities and social sciences.

This classification, issued by the British QS Foundation, which is concerned with analyzing the state of higher education, relies on academic reputation, the reputation of universities with employers, research and citations for published papers, and various human resources criteria (the ratio of faculty members to students, and the ratio of international students and faculty members).
