The Chinese Scholarship Council delegation praises the depth of relations between Cairo and Beijing and the breakthroughs they have achieved in recent years, which broadens horizons for joint cooperation.
The head of the delegation thanks Dr. Elkhosht for his care and attention to the Chinese students at Cairo International University and for providing them with all necessary facilities for study at CIU.
Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, received a delegation in his office from the Scholarship Council of the Chinese Ministry of Education headed by Mr. Zhang Shengjian, attended by Dr. Rehab Mahmoud, Head of the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Arts and Director of the Confucius Institute, and Engineer Ahmed Turk, Secretary-General of the University.
The meeting discussed ways and means to enhance joint cooperation between Cairo University and Chinese universities in various fields of research, education, and student exchange, as part of the effort to expand international cooperation in various educational, cultural, and research fields.
Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht stressed the importance of strategic cooperation between Egypt and China and the close relations between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Chinese President, as well as the extensive cooperation between Cairo University and Chinese universities in various fields of research, education and student exchange, noting that one of the universitys strategic goals is openness to other cultures and the global experiences of major countries, including China.
The President of Cairo University explained that the areas of cooperation between CU and Chinese universities should not be limited to language teaching of Arabic or Chinese, but rather should extend to include the humanities and social sciences, medicine, engineering, agriculture and other sciences. He emphasized that Egypt is currently witnessing a major renaissance in the sciences, reflected in CUs impressive progress in various prestigious international classifications.
Dr. Elkhosht pointed out that Cairo University now ranks among the top 100 universities in the world in six specializations, which calls for looking into the possibility of cooperation between CU and Chinese universities in the majors where CU has achieved great global progress, such as library and information management, ranked 38th worldwide, petroleum engineering, among the top 50 universities in the world, and other specializations in the fields of agriculture, veterinary medicine, dentistry, and medical and engineering sciences.
Dr. Elkhosht added that the Chinese students studying at Cairo International University have achieved good integration into the Egyptian academic and cultural environment, which became clear during his interview with them on the CIU campus. Similar integration has been achieved by the Egyptian students studying in China, which became clear during his interview with them during his multiple visits to that country. He indicated that this meeting will pave the way for increasing the number of scholarships offered to Egyptian students to study at Chinese universities.
For its part, the delegation of the Scholarship Council of the Chinese Ministry of Education emphasized the depth of historical relations between Egypt and China, which have made great progress in recent years, adding that cooperation between the two countries includes every educational and humanitarian. They added that cooperation with Cairo University stands strengthen relations between the two countries in terms of preparing generations with a high level of competence, especially since Cairo University is one of the largest international universities.
Mr. Zhang Shengjian praised Cairo Universitys great history and advancement in many fields, as well as its cooperation with many Chinese educational institutions and establishments. He thanked Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht for his welcoming treatment of the Chinese students studying at Cairo University and for providing them with all necessary facilities to help them study in Egypt.
Mr. Zhang Shengjian added that the China Scholarship Council supports students and scholars from various countries of the world to travel to China and conduct study and research at universities and research institutions there, and manages students coming from all over the world under the supervision of the Chinese Ministry of Education, noting that the Council has signed about 300 student exchange agreements with prestigious universities worldwide.
Mr. Zhang Shengjian also gave a detailed explanation of the various tasks carried out by the Scholarship Council and extended an invitation to Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht to visit China and the China Scholarship Council.
