Professor Gaber Nassar Opens an International Symposium at Faculty of Arts on Comparative Literature: Literature and Language of Resistance

Professor Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, has inaugurated the International Symposium, entitled “Literature and Language of Resistance”, which is organized by the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, in the period from 11 to 13 November, 2014, 10 a.m., Conference Hall, Faculty of Arts.



The opening has been attended by Professor Ezzuddin Abusteit, Vice President of Cairo University for Education and Student Affairs, Professor Moataaz Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, as well as a group of faculty professors and its pioneers. About hundred researchers of Egyptian and Arab Universities as well as researchers from southern Korea, India, Romania, Italy, Nigeria, France, Turkey, and the United States of America have participated in the symposium.



Professor Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, has delivered a speech, in which he thanked and lauded the attendees and all of those who participated in organizing the symposium. He pointed out the importance of the pioneering role which the Faculty of Arts plays in instilling cultures, as it is the main cooperation bridge between peoples and civilizations. Combating abnormal thoughts of society can never happen without cross-culture communication. He has also pointed out that the university is always sponsoring the role of literature and Arts in enlightening and widening horizons through culture and literature.  



Professor Moataz Abdullah, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, has expressed his thanks and gratitude to the President of Cairo University for his permanent participation and sponsoring for Faculty of Arts. He has also thanked all the attendees and lauded the active role of the Department of English and its diligent work in flourishing the educational process, pointing out that the faculty of Arts is always elevated with its scholars and writers.



Professor Mohamed Enani, Professor of Translation Studies in the Department of English and Keynote Speaker, has hailed and thanked the President of Cairo University, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and all the attendees. He has also lauded the efforts of Faculty of Arts in promoting the educational process and uplifting students, pointing out that these students are the best sons of our Homeland. He stressed that science, Arts, and Literature can never be promoted without upgrading the different civilizations and peoples.



Professor Loubna Youssef, Chair of the Department of English, has illustrated that the conference tackles several theses about resistance from different perspectives, such as; visual imagery, passive resistance, history and alternate history, modern media and means of technology, globalization and localization, humor, body strength, women and resistance, and voice and silence.
