Student Team from Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, participated in Formula Student Competition which was held on Formula motor-racing track at Hockenheimring, Germany, from July 28 to August 2, 2015. This was announced by Prof. Dr. Sherif Murad, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, pointing out that Formula Student Competition is one of the most important engineering competitions at the global level of universities. Students of the participant teams design and manufacture racing cars with criteria and specifications determined by SEA International Automotive Organization which organizes the competition. The participant student teams are evaluated through the standards specified by the organizing body. These standards cover the design and marketing plan of cars as a simulation for its sale at the market, car cost account, acceleration and rotation tests, and some other standards.
Cairo University Racing team, consisting of 20 students all in their second and third years of university, competed with another 71 teams from Germany, The United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Pakistan, India, Thailand, to successfully win 164, 83 points out of 325.. Cairo University Racing team car has only participated in static tests because of some technical problems which faced the team. This did not allow the team to compete on the rest of marks (Dynamic Tests) reaching 1000 degrees. The team won Challenge Award, a Promotional Award, for recollecting the car before the competition. One of the most important reasons of winning Challenge Award is the ability of students to recollect the car in the place of competition, which is an unfamiliar work in most of the similar competitions.
Cairo University Racing Team is from Departments of Mechanical Power, Mechanical Design and Production, Electronics, Communications and Computers, at Faculty of Engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Saifullah Khorshid, Mechanical Design and Production Department, Dr. Omar Hazin and Dr. Taher Abu-Deif, Mechanical Power Engineering Department.
