Anti-Harassment Unit Ends Egyptian Woman Day Celebration Activities

The Anti-Harassment and Combating Violence against Women Unit – Cairo University ended the activities it organized on the occasion of Egyptian Woman Day, in the period from March 13 to March 17, 2016. Cairo University faculties witnessed sport, musical and theatrical shows by the participation of students, professors and Egyptian Women Union (EWU).


The activities also included seminars and panel discussions on the role of the university in combating harassment and violence against women, the role of Egyptian Woman in society, and the rights of equality between man and woman.


In the conclusion of activities, Faculty of Commerce yard at Cairo University witnessed establishing a theater for raising awareness of woman issue by Puppets Show from Borgola and Cairo Runners teams from university students who believed in the ideas of The Anti-Harassment and Combating Violence against Women Unit – Cairo University. This was witnessed by Prof. Dr. Gaber Nassar, Cairo University President, and the ambassador of the Netherlands in Cairo, professors, students and representatives of Egyptian Woman Union (EWU). The conclusion also witnessed sport event for girls that included Zumba trainings and self-defense at Cairo University playground indoor gymnasium.


On his part, Cairo University President commended the activities organized by The Anti-Harassment and Combating Violence against Women Unit – Cairo University in raising the awareness of students and university society of equality, rights between man and woman, and combating harassment. He pointed out that the unit, that has no counterparts in Egyptian University, is an important gesture in disseminating the culture of respect, equality and harassment combating.


Prof. Dr. Ghada Ali, The Vice-President of The Anti-Harassment– Cairo University, pointed out that the unit, headed by Prof. Dr. Maha Al-Said, and its members exchange experiences with society institutions working in the field of woman and harassment combating, as well as UNESCO which has commended Cairo University experience, student initiatives, and the research conducted at the university. This aims at providing safe university environment for all by raising the awareness of the importance of harassment problem inside university community and equality in rights among all.


The Vice-President of The Anti-Harassment added that the unit prepared a group of training courses for students and staff members to work in this vital field for Egyptian society.
