Applications for the 2024 CU Awards are open for faculty members until the end of next July

Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, announced that applications were now open for faculty members seeking the CU awards (Distinction, Merit, Excellence, Encouragement, Pioneers, Naguib Mahfouz, and Princess Fatima) for the year 2024 during the period from June 5 to July 31, to encourage faculty members of distinction with significant and active contributions to CU s development locally and internationally, in accordance with the terms and requirements announced on the website of the General Scientific Research Department.

According to Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, the aim of the CU Awards is to motivate faculty members in all fields of knowledge to develop solutions to the economic and social issues facing society, and to work on development and creativity in various scientific fields. The university has allocated a number of awards to further motivate its faculty members, improve the educational and research process, and enhance CU s competitiveness in international research publishing, pointing out that the value of the CU awards this year amounts to about 3 million pounds in all fields.

The President of Cairo University stressed that the university s policy aims to support and honor faculty members of distinction who work hard to achieve progress and comprehensively enhance the quality of the university system, as well as to encourage its scholars with scientific potential to enrich research at CU and publish their work in international scientific journals to maintain CU s status as one of the best 350 universities in the world.

Dr. Elkhosht added that the university spares no effort in honoring distinguished professors whose contribution goes above and beyond the traditional limits of a university professor s mission, who have played a distinguished role in the advancement of CU and of the nation, and who have achieved great things in scientific research, the educational process, and community service. Furthermore, the award seeks to motivate young, brilliant faculty members to achieve more in the research and educational fields.

For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Saeed, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, said that faculty members wishing to apply for university awards must provide the General Scientific Research Department with the applicant s full file, in addition to a copy of the applicant s page on the Cairo University Scholars website, and download the application form from the GSRD website.

The Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research also clarified the general conditions for the university s awards, including that the applicant must be actively fulfilling his professional duties at the university when applying for the award and not currently subject to any administrative penalties. It is also not permitted to apply for more than one CU award in the same year. Finally, the work submitted for any CU award may not have previously won another award, from CU or elsewhere, and the applicant must submit an affidavit to that effect.

The CU awards now number 8 since their inception, covering every field of the sciences and the humanities. Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht has introduced 4 of these in recent years: the Naguib Mahfouz Prize for Literary and Intellectual Creativity in 2018, the Princess Fatima Award in 2019, the Taha Hussein Award for the Humanities in 2022, and the Pioneer Award in 2024 in the fields of basic sciences, medical sciences, engineering, and the humanities and social sciences.
