Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, announced that the Cairo University International Journal of Veterinary Sciences and Medicine (JVSM) has achieved significant progress in terms of impact factor and citation according to classification bodies in 2024, noting that the progress of the Journal of Veterinary Sciences is one in a series of achievements for CU’s scientific journals.

Dr. Elkhosht pointed out that the Journal of Veterinary Sciences (JVSM) succeeded, according to the annual report of the Scopus database for the year 2024, in obtaining a Cite Score of 4.8, ranking sixteenth in the world out of 179 international journals in the field of veterinary medicine, and the journal continues to be in the Q1 golden zone at 92%.

Dr. Elkhosht added that according to the latest update on the Clarivate website, June 2024, JVSM obtained an impact factor of 2.8, an advancement over the previous year, in which the magazine achieved an impact factor of 2.2. The magazine was also listed for the first year in the Q1 golden box with a score of 91.3%, in 15th place out of 167 international journals in the field of veterinary medicine. In general terms, JVSM occupies sixth place on the list of Egyptian magazines in terms of impact factor.


Dr. Elkhosht pointed out that the number of papers submitted to JVSM increased from 103 papers in 2022 to 160 papers in 2023, and the rate of acceptance of papers came to 18%, indicating the care with which JVSM selects the best submitted papers, reflecting its importance at the international level.

Dr. Elkhosht confirmed that, according to the annual Taylor and Francis report, the number of downloads of JVSM articles increased by 14% for 18,086 downloads in 2024. Downloads were logged from various countries worldwide, with the United States of America at the forefront, followed by India and China respectively.

According to the CU President, the success of international scientific journals issued by CU, especially at the level of impact factor, citations, and access, is a result of CU’s success in setting strict standards for accepting papers of significance. This is reflected both in the willingness of international researchers to publish in these journals, and the trust of research institutions that have included CU’s journals in their databases.

Dr. Elkhosht emphasized that the international success of Cairo University’s journals has contributed directly to enhancing the university’s global academic reputation, reflected in the university’s advanced ranking in every international university classification applying various standards. In addition, CU’s academic reputation prompted many major international universities to conclude cooperation agreements with Cairo University at the level of education, scientific research, academic exchange, and academics.

For her part, Dr. Iman Bakr, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, said that the journal receives papers from all over the world in the field of veterinary medicine. JVSM publishes research from different continents such as Canada, America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. According to the annual Taylor and Francis report, the number of downloads of articles published in the magazine increased by 14%, reaching 18,086 downloads in 2024. Downloads were logged from various countries worldwide, with the United States of America at the forefront, followed by India and China respectively.

The Dean of the College also emphasized the financial and moral support that the magazine receives from the CU administration, represented by its president, Dr Mohamed Othman Elkhosht.
