Cairo University President Opens Fifty-Second Conference for Statistics and Touches upon Universities Role in Serving Society and Contributing to Development

 Cairo University President Mohamed Osman Elkhosht opens the fifty-second annual conference for statistics, computer science, operation research organized by Institute of Statistical Studies and Research Cairo University (ISSR – CU). Central Agency for Public Mobilization And Statistics (CAPMAS) President Abou-bakr Elguindy, Giza Governor Deputy Manal Awad, elite of experts, specialists, and representatives of many economic, social, and scientific authorities and institutions in Egypt participate in the seminar.


Cairo University President said in his opening speech for the conference that Institute of Statistical Studies and Research Cairo University encompasses distinctive elite of Egyptian scholars who greatly contribute to serving social issues. This comes in the framework of Cairo University striving to employ research and studies conducted by the university through its research cadres and professors in solving the problems facing the development process of the Egyptian state at different levels. The University President illustrated that Cairo University plan for transformation into a third-generation university is aimed at linking between education and scientific research by utilizing knowledge in serving the goals of sustainable development for the state.


Elkhosht said that universities should play their roles in serving society and contributing effectively to inclusive development and maintaining the cultural identity of society which means confirming the most modern concept of national security which includes cultural identity and inclusive development.


Cairo University President acclaimed the efforts exerted by Central Agency for Public Mobilization And Statistics (CAPMAS) in working with high efficiency and duplicated effort to achieve development, progress, and bureaucracy termination. He pointed out that statistics, census, and knowing the characteristics of population and geographic nature are highly important issue for society development decisions.    


Central Agency for Public Mobilization And Statistics (CAPMAS) President Abou-bakr Elguindy pointed out that the agency is concerned with participating in conferences related to the agency work and supporting them with research papers. He touched upon population problem with different dimensions as the biggest challenge facing our society. He added that Egypt is one of the most ancient countries that conducted complete population censuses electronically in 2017.


Institute of Statistical Studies and Research Cairo University (ISSR – CU) Dean Elsayed Khater said that the institute has a big role in forming many statistical cadres in Egypt and the Arab World over last years. The institute cooperates with many scientific authorities and national institutions working in statistics.


Khater illustrated that the conference work program includes a group of sessions, workshops, and seminars handling different theses over three days. The conference discusses 60 research papers and working papers in applied statistics, econometrics, population and vital statistics, computer science and information systems. The papers tackle issues of human development and population, sustainable development, women and child, poverty rates, joblessness, and others.
