Headed by Prof. Dr. Gaber Nassar, Cairo University President, Cairo University declares its solidarity with Prof. Dr. Nader Nour el-Din, Professor of Water Resources, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University. This is in regard to the communication submitted by The Ministry of Irrigation against him on charge of defamation and insult because of his opinion of Al-Nahda Dam. The university considered the communication restricting the freedom of speech. The statement of the University is as the following: Cairo University strongly consolidates with Prof. Dr. Nader Nour el-Din, Professor of Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, concerning the actions being brought against him, which resulted from voicing his scientific opinions on the impacts of Al-Nahda Dam and the ongoing negotiations on them. Whatever disagreement on these opinions, they enter in the framework of freedom of speech, not defamation and insult as these opinions are certainly addressed from a patriotic perspective.

The statement proceeds: Cairo University actually hopes that The Ministry of Irrigation takes action for withdrawing all the complaints and communications submitted against Prof. Dr. Nader Nour el-Din or any other. The University also wishes the Ministry be able to make itself receptive to all the viewpoints related to this national issue which represents a worry for all the Egyptians. No matter how these views differed, there is no doubt that they are all in the supreme interest which everybody outflanks and is keen on.
