Student Team from Cairo University Participates for the First Time in an International Competition at the US for Launching a Small Rocket

Prof. Dr. Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, has announced that a student team from Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, has participated for the first time in the Tenth International Competition of Missile Engineering, among faculties in The United States to launch a small rocket. The competition was conducted at Utah, US, from June 24 to June 27, 2015. The participants were student teams from 50 universities most of which are from US and Canada, as well as student teams that represent India, Australia, Brazil, and Turkey. Cairo University Student Team was the only representative of Africa and Arab countries. It won an award dedicated to the spirit of the team (Team Spirit Award).



Prof. Dr. Sherif Murad, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, said that Cairo University Team rocket was designed by three students from Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering; Essam Omar, Ahmed El-Gohary and Hamed Gamal, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Basman El-Hadidy, Professor of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering. The competition included basic level and advanced level. Cairo University participated in the basic level competition. He has pointed out that Cairo University rocket was successfully launched and the restoration system succeeded in restoring the rocket undamaged. The participation of Faculty of Engineering Team, Cairo University, is considered the first of its kind in this competition.





The final results of the International Competition for Missile Engineering among faculties resulted in the win of the teams of the American universities; Mississippi, Massachusetts, Oregon and Colorado with the first place in competitions of advanced and basic levels, dead weight capacity and technical development and excellence.  





Student teams from Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, have participated throughout the last two years in several international competitions of energy-saving cars, off-road vehicles, and software.
