One Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty Two Students are Contesting for Student Elections at Cairo University on the Coming Monday

The student elections committees at Cairo University announced the final lists of the students applying to the student elections for the academic year 2015/2016 in all the university faculties after examining the appeals presented among candidate students. The appeals number reached 554, as 42 appeals were accepted, 25 appeals were excluded for the non-existence of any remarkable activity, and 75 students have waived candidacy. The total number of the students, excluded from candidacy for elections, is 142 students whether because of the appeals filed against them or because of not practicing activities, or waiving candidacy by some students. According to the final lists announced at all the university faculties, the number of students, who will be contesting for elections, is 1442 students.   


The largest number of candidate students was at Faculty of Law 183 students, followed by Faculty of Commerce 144 students, then at Faculty of Urban Planning were124 students, at Faculty of Physical Therapy were 92 students, and at Faculty of Dar El-Ulum were 90 students. At Faculty of Agriculture, there were 85 candidate students, at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine were 83 students, at Faculty of Engineering were 75 students, at Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences were 72 students, and at Faculty of Archaeology were 62 students. Appointment is being conducted at Faculty of Computers and Information for the number required for conducting elections was incomplete.  


The first round of student elections is starting on Monday, November 16, 2015, to enable opening the voting door for students to select members of the student committees at the faculties level, besides, counting votes on the same day. The result is to be announced after finishing the votes counting and the re-elections are being conducted on the following day in case that votes are equally divided.


The elections are being completed on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, for the elections of committees trustees and committees assistants at the faculties, as well as electing a president and vice presidents of faculty student union. The final stage of Cairo University student elections is taking place on Sunday, November 22, 2015, including the elections of trustees and assistant trustees of the university student union committees, as well as the elections of a president and a vice president of the student union at the university level.


Prof. Dr. Gaber Nassar, Cairo University President, confirmed that the university is ready to conduct student elections with safeguarding its integrity and transparency. Nassar pointed out that student elections are being conducted according to the student regulation, and the university administration will never interfere in its affairs. Nassar calls upon students to participate in their elections and form their council, which expresses them, in a civilized manner that is appropriate for Cairo University students. Nassar also appeals to candidate students to adhere by the electoral propaganda for the student union councils candidates at the university faculties starting by Wednesday, November 11, until Sunday, November 15, 2015, and not to use any party or religious slogans or stick advertisements of candidate students to the university walls in a way that make them difficult to remove.
