Prof. Dr. Gaber Nassar, Cairo University President, announced that the cornerstone of Confucius Institute new building is going to be laid at the university. This was during the activities of China-Egypt University Presidents Forum, hosted by the University, on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Conference Hall – Cairo University, in participation with 20 of Egyptian University Presidents and their counterparts from Chinese Universities. The forum discusses aspects of cooperation between Egyptian and Chinese Universities in many educational and research fields.
The foundation stone placement, in the vicinity of Cairo University playgrounds, is witnessed by Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of Chinese State Council, Dr. Ashraf El-Shihy, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Peking University President, and a number of Egyptian University Presidents. Confucius Institute cornerstone laying ceremonies includes the speech delivered by Vice Premier of Chinese State Council, Confucius Institute photography exhibition, and an artistic show by the institute students.
Prof. Dr. Rehab Mahmoud, Confucius Institute Director, at Cairo University, pointed out that the institute was founded under the convention between Cairo University and Peking University in year 2007 for Chinese Language Learning at Egypt. Being joined by many learners, Cairo University provided the institute with headquarter and halls at the educational building near the university playgrounds. Elite of Egyptian and Chinese professors teach and train at Confucius Institute.
