Cairo University readied itself for the ceremony of awarding the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud honorary doctorate on Monday, April 11, 2016. Egyptian Prime Minister, Ministers, State Figures, Giza Governor, University Presidents, Cairo University Council Members, a group of university professors and accredited men of diplomatic corps at Egypt are attending the ceremony. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is to arrive at the university at 11:30 a.m. King Salman is going to be received by Prof. Dr. Gaber Nassar, Cairo University President, to accompany him to Grand Celebration Hall where the celebration ceremonies start. The King is to address a speech.
Cairo University Council earlier unanimously decided to grant honorary doctorate to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his unique role and great influence at the Arab and international level. King Al Saud also has prominent contributions in serving Arabism, Islam and Muslims, as well as his support to Egypt and its people, and a remarkable role in boosting Cairo University.
Honorary doctorate was received from Cairo University by a number of leaders. The university started to award honorary doctorate after two years since its establishment. The university Council decided to award late American President, Theodore Roosevelt, honorary doctorate in 1910. Moreover, King Hassan II of Morocco received it in 1965, as well as French President, Valéry Giscard d Estaing, in 1975, President of Senegal, Abdou Diouf, in 1985, and African combatant, Nelson Mandela, received it as well.
