Faculty of Archaeology Holds the First International Conference entitled “Egypt and Mediterranean Countries”

 Dr.\ As-Sayed Abdul-Khalek, Minister of Higher Education, inaugurates the first international conference, entitled “Egypt and Mediterranean Countries through Ages”. The conference is held by Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University, and sponsored by Dr.\ Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, and Dr.\ Mohamed Hamza, Faculty Dean. It is held in the period from 15-18/10/2014, at the main building of the faculty, at 10 a.m.


Eight countries participate in the conference, namely; Tunisia – Morocco -  Syria – Algeria – France – Romania – Hungary – Switzerland, as well as participation of most of the Egyptian universities. Number of the presented researches in the conference is 90 researches. 


The conference tackles three theses as the first thesis discusses archaeology through ages in Egypt and Mediterranean countries whence (monuments and environment – history and civilization – architecture, arts, photography, and materials technology – old languages – civilization influences exchangeable between Mediterranean countries and the external world -  Papyri and inscriptions and coins). The first thesis also focuses on archaeology in the Greek Roman age, Byzantine, medieval, Islamic, and modern ages.


The second thesis handles several important points, notably; documentation processes of archaeological materials and sites, examination methods and analysis of organic, inorganic and mixed materials, methods of its restoration and maintenance, environmental influences on archaeological materials and locations, architectural restoration of archaeological and heritage buildings, preventive maintenance in museums and archaeological sites.


The third thesis tackles a number of special subjects which are related to basic sciences in service of archaeology, using modern technology in fields of archaeology and its maintenance, and old sciences in Egypt and Mediterranean countries.
