The Faculty of Computers and Information at Cairo University is pleased to announce the start of a new
M.Sc. program on Software Engineering.
Program Highlight:
1- The program aims to advance the research skills, scientific thinking and innovation and development
capacity of the students in the field of software engineering through academic study of advanced
topics in software engineering and application in an applied research thesis.
2- The program of study was prepared jointly by 10 Egyptian, Palestinian and EU universities through a
curriculum development project funded by Tempus scheme of the EU.
3- Top 5 students from the first intake will have a fully funded opportunity to attend a summer school
on advanced software engineering for 2 weeks in one of the EU universities involved in the project.
4- The program provides a chance of joint thesis supervision with a scholar from the EU partner
universities.
5- Tutorials prepared by industry experts on selected advanced technologies are integrated with the
study program.
Program Structure:
1. The student needs to complete 36 credit hours of study to obtain the M.Sc. degree.
2. The student takes 24 credit hours of courses: 6 compulsory courses and 2 elective courses. The
student should also cover 12 credit hours of research work to produce a M.Sc. thesis.
3. The student must provide a certificate of English proficiency (TOEFL) and publish a research paper
before obtaining the degree.
4. The minimum period to finish the M.Sc. is 4 semesters and the maximum is 10 semesters.

Application and Inquiries:
1. The program accepts students with B.Sc. degree in computers and information, computer sciences,
information systems or computer engineering from any university or faculty accredited by the
supreme council of universities. It also accepts students who obtained a graduate studies diploma in
a field related to software engineering from a faculty of computers and information, faculty of
sciences, faculty of engineering or equivalent faculties accredited by the supreme council of
universities.
2. Students can join the program in the first semester (September) or in the second semester
(February).
