In cooperation with Arabic Association for the Study of Diabetes and Metabolism (AASD), Cairo University organizes the World Diabetes Day celebration on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 11 a.m., in front of the dome of the university campus.
Prof. Dr. Gaber Nassar, Cairo University President, sponsors the activities of the campaign, which is being attended by a group of professors, students and employees. It aims at introducing diabetes and the role of sport in the disease prevention.
A symbolic marathon is being conducted by the campaign at the main playground of the university hostel for the students participating in the celebration, for whom T-shirts that bear the World Diabetes Day logo are going to be presented. Medals are being presented to the winners of the first, second and third places. Throughout the day, blood sugar and blood pressure are being measured for all the attendees; namely, professors, students and employees.
On the fringe of the ceremony, an educational seminar that aims at the prevention of diabetes, its complications ,healthy food and the role of the university in raising awareness inside the community is going to convene, as well as distributing brochures among students, professors and employees.
The names of students infected with diabetes are going to be listed for initiating a recreational and sport activity, and medical care for them during private medical camps to be organized regularly, besides, distributing free sugar measuring devices and analytical test strips among them.
At the conclusion of the day, the university dome is going to be illuminated with the blue color, which is the slogan of the World Diabetes Day. The blue illumination will be continuing throughout the night as it happened before at Giza pyramids on the same day, three years ago.
