Cairo University and Ministry of Archaeology Agree on Restoring El-Gamaleya Monuments

 Cairo University signs, on Tuesday, cooperation agreement with Ministry of Archaeology to restore and maintain 100 monuments at El-Gamaleya within Historical Cairo project which includes stages of implementation through Conservation Center for Archaeological and Historical Buildings and Museum Artifacts (CCAHBMA – CU) at Cairo University. The project is sponsored by Cairo University President Mohamed Osman Elkhosht and Minister of Archaeology Khaled El-Enani.


The two sides agreed on submitting the first stage that represents 5 archaeological sites including El Set Wasela House behind Al-Azhar Mosque, El-Mobayeda Gate, Wekalet Qawsun, Mahmoud Moharam Mosque, and Bayt Al-Suhaymi at El-Gamaleya, provided that implementation starts in the time of agreement  signature.


Faculty of Archaeology Dean at Cairo University Mohamed Hamza said that ،،These monuments have archaeological, architectural and historical value.,, He added that ،،Restoration will be carried out through a bid got by CCAHBMA - CU and the rest of stages are to be completed after finishing each stage.,, All the stages include nearly 100 monuments.  


Cairo University President Mohamed Osman Elkhosht said that ،،The agreement is included within the role of Cairo University in community service that supplies the university with resources and serves community as Cairo University represents expertise with its centers and research and service centers.,,


Elkhosht illustrated that ،، CCAHBMA – CU which got implementation bid starts first stage work of the maintenance of historical Cairo archaeology that includes 5 monuments at El-Gamaleya of nearly EGP 1,700,000.,,
