Cairo University organizes a workshop, entitled "For a Better Life for the Elderly from the Perspective of Helpful Information Technology", on August 21, 2014. Workshop activities will start with introducing Cairo University Center for the Elderly Science and Care and the services it offers. The workshop discusses important issues about the role of helpful technology in helping the elderly to be independent in daily life affairs through applying smart technology which relies on wireless sensor networks, image processing techniques, and the reality integrated in different economic, social, and environmental theses for sustainable development related to the elderly. It plays the role of establishing the principle of "integration" for the elderly of society and avoiding separating them as an unproductive category or depriving them from participation and entertainment through developing different services and creating service channels which commensurate with the needs and interests of this category.
Moreover, the workshop displays a number of technological suggestions in several fields which lead to enhancing health, educational, psychological, and organic case of the elderly through lifting the spirits and awareness of the person through getting rid of loneliness and depression and overcoming the feeling that he/she is no longer an active member in society. An exhibition is also being organized on the sidelines of the conference to display the helpful technological techniques for serving the elderly.
